Stepping Into the Unknown

The Journey Toward Authenticity and Authority in Frozen 2

Elsa's path is not just about finding her power; it’s about stepping into a role no one else can fill. There is no guide ahead of her, no roadmap. Her very being makes others uncomfortable, and so she has to leave behind the world that once defined her in order to become who she truly is. That comes with a kind of solitude—not isolation out of fear, like in Frozen, but the solitude of clarity, of knowing that what she hears (the voice, the call) is hers alone to answer.

Thank you to my premium members for another enchanted class in the Virtual Café Exclusive Membership this May.

This year, our monthly classes will be inspired by classic philosophies, which we will use to look at books, movies, archetypes, and how they are reflected in our own lives.

In the May class, we return to Frozen 2 and the way it illustrates Carl Jung’s individuation journey. We look at Elsa’s and Anna’s very different journeys toward stepping into their true place in life, beyond shame and fear.

What looks like “just” a magical adventure is, at its core, a deeply archetypal tale of transformation and individuation. Separately, Elsa and Anna must step into unknown territory; not only in terms of the landscape around them, but within themselves. Elsa follows a mysterious call that demands she shed every old identity in order to claim her truth. Anna must face the grief of separation and step into her own quiet strength. Together, their twin journeys mirror the process of individuation: becoming who we are meant to be, not through external validation, but by listening to the voice within, even when it leads to mortal danger.

In this class, we examine the implications and deepest meanings of the film, and what it can teach us about our own life.
