Frank and Ella?
For decades now, this question is always asked in text messages - starting sometime at the beginning of November - between my good friend, Katrine, and myself: Frank and Ella?
Technically,”Frank and Ella?” is of course not actually a question, but what it really means is: “When are we allowed to listen to our two beloved Christmas albums?”
Frank (it goes without saying) is Frank Sinatra, and Ella is Ella Fitzgerald. And the two beloved albums are not just any two Christmas albums from these two brilliant artists. They are, specifically A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra (1957) and Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas. (1960)
